Z1 300ZX (Z32) Premium Short Throw Shifter

Plug and play. Everything fit perfect. I replaced a cheap Amazon shifter and it’s worlds better.

Replaced a worn out short shifter from another brand. The difference in quality is night and day and shifts are once again crisp and smooth.

Man, until you get this in your car you don't know what you're missing and that you needed it your whole life. Easy install and well made.

For the price I was a little bit skeptical of this shifter's quality but I cannot stress enough how pleased I am with the fit and function! It was incredibly easy to pop this onto the car even without instructions and the result is just...chef's kiss. It feels solid, stable, and comfortable and is a fantastic replacement for the sloppy stock shifter.

I really like the shifter. Its a lot smoother than stock. Especially with a non existing bushing. It makes shifting more enjoyable. Product is really well made. The only issue is putting on the two outer washers unless you remove drive shaft and put on from underneath. But I got mine on from top side, it just takes a bit of patience.

Awsome upgrade!!! No more smashing my knuckle against the center console when putting it in 1st gear.

Shifter is good quality, it was a bit complicated to put on, had to grind the hole bigger of the support bracket to actually fit the the shifter in. But overall i would say solid upgrade for ur Z.

I got the LHD version of this sent by accident I guess, but I’ve gotten used to it and it’s not to bad, really clean with the m spec knob etc

the throws are so much smoother now, i would recommend it if you haven’t. also while you’re in there take a look at your shifter support bracket, mine was shot and needed to be replaced.

If the knob is over tightened the upper/outer rod body breaks from the lower inner body. This causes it to continue to spin. Other than that is it nice and should include a warning note in the packaging. - Dane

The shifter came fast and was able to put it. The link shift is a bit long than oem but somehow made it fit. Once I was able to connected it again I tried it out and it was smooth but it seems to be a little stiff over best purchase I made!

I recently bought this short shifter as a gift for my husband. The Mistress, as we have named the car, already had a different brand short shifter installed when we purchased the car. After my husband returned home for the holidays, he finally had a chance e to install the Z1 part and offer his opinion on a test drive. Literally within minutes of embarking on his test drive, he phoned me from the car raving about the dramatic difference he experienced with the new shifter. He stopped short of saying it was as buttery smooth as the 6 speed in my Miata, but raved nonetheless. He said the shifts were much less clunky and made the car feel more modern. Thank you for a quality product.

I recommend this short shifter any day of the week. Installation is tricky depending on your hand size lol. The short shifter does not make the installation more difficult, it is the fact that the Z32 gives a small amount of room to work with. This shifter feels very solid and is very smooth. I would recommend this to anyone, especially if they want to upgrade from OEM.

Awesome product makes gear shifts feel like a brand new car. Little of a pain to remove oem one but well worth it. Installation instructions could be a little more specific but plenty of videos online.

So far this shifter works and feels great. The shifts feel much better than oem. Installing this through the inside interior was a pain though. Took a while to change this out but was worth it. It was tricky to get the washers to fit into the fork linkage as well as get the throught bolt and nut tightened but after all that anger/frustration of dropping my wrench and rachets, I'm happy with the feel of the shifting. Recommend this. To note, I also do not have any aftermarket pieces other than just the Z1 Short Shifter so this works with the OEM parts just fine if anyone is worried about that.

Love the shifter!! Nice short solid throws - no more shifter wobble. Just make sure you orient in the proper position - the shifter should tilt/lean toward the driver side. Also the inner most dust boot that goes over the shifter base will not fit properly because of the thickness of the new shifter base (you'll see what I mean). Would be nice if a new proper fitting one was included or available for separate purchase.

Excellent, I highly recommend this product. Firment was perfect. Feels extremely good when paired with a weighted shift knob. I used a Racseng slammer shift knob which weighs over 600grams, which made a huge difference compared to the stock knob.

This short shifter is a huge improvement vs. stock. The throw is noticeably shorter and quicker than stock. WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THIS WITHOUT THE MATCHING ZSPEED SUPPORT BRACKET. I initially installed the new shifter using the stock support bracket and within two months the transmission began to grind when shifting out of first and third gears and shifting into second and fourth required effort (due to the stock shifter boot not fitting well with the new shifter). The cause of this is a change in the angle of the control arm due to the short shifter which changes how the shifter forks engage in the transmission. The ZSpeed support bracket returns the angle of the control arm back to the stock angle. The ZSpeed bracket also comes with a new shifter plate and boot which corrects the issue related to stock shifter boot not mating well with the new shifter pivot mechanism. After installing the new support bracket and shifter plate/boot, my car now shifts perfectly. Installation of these parts is not easy and should be done from both the inside of the car and below the car. As other people have indicated, clearances are extremely tight from above. By coming up from underneath the car, you gain much easier access to the nut holding the stock shifter to the support bracket. Be fair warned, however, you will need to remove your cats and the heat shield to access the underside of the shifter. Have lots of patience and get a friend to help hold things inside while you work under the car (or vice versa).

When I bought my 1989 300ZX Z32 TT, the first thing I noticed was the stock shifter bushings were completely gone - it flopped around (like it was in neutral) even while in gear. Even though this short shifter is a wee bit pricey for an Australian (shipping kills) the price was worth it. Instructions were easy to follow, and came preassembled and was fairly easy to install (took a couple hours). It can take a bit of fighting to get the new shifter through the car's support plate though. The shifter now feels very solid with minimal play. Definitely a much shorter throw compared to stock, and the bearings give a much more solid feel compared to plastic bushings. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

I, and a friend, installed this kit on my z32 this past sunday. The only issue I had with is kit was getting the washers to stay on the end of where the shifter links up while trying to install it, mostly due to the restrictive working space the z always seems to offer. The kit itself made a huge difference. It feels like the throw was reduced by more than the advertised percentage and shifting is smoother.

This shifter replace my Stillen short-throw shifter (which failed and became sloppy in the ball joint for some reason). Excellent build quality of this product, and it comes fully assembled.....which is great! Installation 'could' be difficult if you are trying to only access it from above, I would think. My installation was done with the exhaust removed and the car up on jack stands, and that way it was easy. I also installed a solid plate to replace the oem rubber bushing/plate and also replaced the hinged wishbone with a solid one.....all from z-speed. The combination with z1's premium short throw shifter is fantastic! Highly recommend it.

I debated for the longest time if I though a short throw shifter was worth the hassle instead of just replacing my completely worn out (read: missing) shifting bushing. I finally decided to purchase this shifter, along with the ZSpeed Solid Shifter Support kit and I am blown away by the improvements this combo yielded. Shifting is crisp, precise, and has NO slop in it. The shift definitely shortened the throw and is a very comfortable and smooth shift. Very please - I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new shifter or that just needs to replace their worn shifter bushings.

The construction of the shifter is impressive! Noticeably, difference without even driving the vehicle. During installation there were 3 things that needed great attention. 1. One of the bolt and nut left side towards the back was very challenging. Nut is on the underside. 2. The wishbone plate/support had to be modified. We shaved the metal to allow the shifter to go through the opening. 3. Lower shift boot needed to be trimmed or opened up to allow the larger spacer to fit through. The space is where the bushing, ring, lower and upper boot, grease etc. fit into and then the plate cover. I highly recommend allowing an auto mechanic assist and or do the installation. Of course, if you are already a mechanic and is knowledgeable with the 95 300zx. I will be looking to purchase other items in the near future. All is good! Thank you!

when I bought my 300zx one of the things that I knew was wrong was that the stock shifter was shot. I mean I more than once shifted into the wrong gear because I couldn't feel the gates at all. I did my research and found out that I could have just replaced the bushings but then I would still need to replace the ball bushing and other things. that and the stock throw of the shifter was a bit long even when the bearing are good. So I searched for a short throw shifter but I wanted to keep the knob height the same as stock. main other shifter just lower the knob, many of the other short throw shifter just use the brass bushings and are not focused on improving the feel of the shift. The Z1 short throw shifter solves more than just one problem and also has many other benefits. First this shifter does get rid of any problem some slop and feels quite tight (in a good way). it does this by not only adding a VERY long needle bearing that handles all of the major loads it also have 2 Teflon spacers that fit on the outside of the bearing that maintain low friction than the shifter is to the left or right. This shifter really does maintain stock shifter height and it does this by raising the shift ball position. to do this they machined a very nice ball holder which is MUCH easier to rebuild than the stock one, but it is a bit of a pain in the ass to install because of the tight space in the shifter well (and I have big hands). while I didn't weight the shifters I do believe that this shifter weights as much if not a bit more than the stock unit. this is actually a good thing because it helps to drive the shifter into the gears a bit better and this add to the VERY precise feel of the shifter. All in all this is a great product and I will definitely be buying more Z1 branded products in the future. I want to try this shifter with their solid shifter mount. I can only imagine how precise that would feel.

All I am going to say is I just had my motor rebuilt and I am more excited with the shifter than the motor rebuild! Very precise and smooth shifts.

I had purchased the short throw shifter back in mid January of this year and am big enough to admit I had my doubts on spending $170 on a shifter. Well I finally decided it was time to write my review after 9 months of really getting after it and now that I am writing it I can say with full confidence that this shifter was well worth the price! I will admit I am somewhat rough on my cars past and present and this shifter has held up to anything I have tossed at it plus improved the shifting overall. I was and still am very pleased with this product and would highly recommend this product to any other Z owners I come across!

Great product. Really improves the shift quality, giving a shift that's quicker but also smoother. Not at all notchy or difficult to shift. Installation is easy, although if you have large hands you will get a few cuts and bruises, as there's not much space to work in.

I just replaced my factory shifter with this one and it made such a difference! The throws are very smooth and precise. I would definately recommend this upgrade to every z32 owner.

Just purchased and installed one of these along with a brand new OEM shifter support plate to replace a knock-off eBay short shifter and the Z1 piece is far superior in every aspect. Good, solid feel, smooth operation, etc, etc. Only thing I wouldve preferred was new OEM pieces to use for the pivot center as this one requires you to reuse your originals.
