This external cooler will keep your transmission fluid temperature cooler and prevent premature breakdown of the ATF.

From the manufacturer some Nissan models with automatic transmissions had a small transmission fluid cooler incorporated into the radiator.  One of the main problems with the ATF cooler in that is in side the lower part of the radiator is that it's design with internal cooling fins means that debris and metal particles from the transmission get stuck inside and can't be flushed out.  If you have a problem with your transmission the cooler int he radiator often gets clogged up or contaminated.  If you rebuild or replace the transmission the cooler must be replaced to prevent damage to the fresh transmission.  Nissan dealerships know this and often just charge customers for an entire new radiator.  We feel that adding an external cooler and bypassing the contaminated cooler in the radiator is more practical option.  The deign of the external cooler is such that it doesn't have to be replaced in the event of a transmission problem as long as the lines and the external cooler are thoroughly flushed out.
