Z1 Motorsports Rear Differential Bushing Removal Tool

starstarstarstarstar_border 4/5 - (30 Reviews)
Fits models: 350Z / 370Z / G35 / G37 / Q60 2014-2016

Product Description

Arguably the most annoying part failure that occurs on the Nissan 350Z, 370Z and Infiniti G35, G37 models is the rear differential bushings.

These bushings are used on the front mount ears as well as the rear subframe mount and secure the differential to the subframe assembly. When these bushings wear out, the excessive play allows the differential to twist under load which can result in wheel hop, increased chassis vibration, damage to the rear differential cover, and excessive axle wear.

While the front differential bushings require little effort to replace, the rear bushing is pressed into its steel subframe. This steel sleeved, liquid filled bushing could be the most difficult bushing to remove from your vehicle without the proper tools. Most conventional bushing presses either lack the proper attachments or cannot be configured to fit the space available without removing the subframe.

If you have ever attempted rear diff bushing replacement you have more than likely spent hours of sawing and burning to prepare the subframe and sleeve for the new bushing. We designed this tool as a time saving solution for professional and shade tree mechanics alike. Z1's Bushing Removal Tool provides the best solution requiring the least amount of time for the removal process.

This tool will allow you to remove the damaged OEM to fit a more suitable Z1 MotorsportsEnergy Suspension, Whiteline, or SPL bushing.

Using The Tool

Replacing these bushings can be a difficult task since they are pressed into the rear subframe assembly prior to its installation during the cars initial assembly. The Z1 Motorsports Differential Bushing Removal Tool was designed to allow the everyday enthusiast to service their rear differential bushings without removing the entire rear subframe assembly from the rear of the car.

The Z1 Bushing Tool is machined from of durable 4130 Alloy Steel and yellow zinc plated for long service life. Two separate plates are included, allowing you to press the bushing and sleeve out of the subframe in separate pieces.

We have also chosen to machine a small lip inside the center of the tool body that allows the tool to sit flush on the back of the subframe without 'walking', making bushing removal even easier!

In addition, two rods are included. The smaller rod is used to remove the rubber bushing from the outer sleeve, while the larger rod is used to remove the outer bushing sleeve from the steel subframe. These hardended steel rods and hardware are sturdy but will wear over time. The tolerances between the bushing and the subframe are exceptionally tight and after repeated use may break. If you intend on using this tool on a frequent basis, we recommend purchasing additional hardware found HERE.

Inspecting Your Differential Bushings

A basic visual inspection of your rear differential bushings can be a good indication as to their condition. This can be completed in your driveway within a matter of minutes.

Because the OEM differential bushings are a silicone filled unit, traces of this silicone can be found on the rear subframe assembly and differential cover after failure. Cracking can also typically be seen around the outside of the bushing, and the center mount sleeve may appear to be 'sagging' or appear offset towards the bottom of the subframe.

  • (1) Bushing Press Plate
  • (1) Bushing Sleeve Press Plate

Great tool, made the job much easier than trying to drill out the old bushing and use a saws all or chisel.

The product is well made from good materials. I found that in my garage it was easer to drill out the inner part of the bushing and use a saw to cut and remove the outer portion. The tool is not for me but I do think it would get the job done.

I ordered this tool knowing that removing the oem bushing from the subframe was going to be a pain. This tool made it super easy to remove the diff bushing. Take your time and grease up the threads. Made the job super easy and fast.

Just get the damn tool, it's worth the money, please trust me. Without this a 2 hour job can turn into a 10 hour job, especially if you don't own a reciprocating saw and other tools.

Broke before the job was finished then ended up dropping even more funds for hardware to get the job done even ended up having to rent a ball joint kit

Works great but a lot of patience and elbow grease is required. Would have been more convenient if I didn't have to rig it up a less than ideal way to push the new bushing in. I dont think it would have been too hard to find a reasonable way for this kit to press a new bushing in.

Unfortunately this tool did not work for me. Made the situation worst. The inner bushing part worked fine but the bushing puller part was slightly bigger than the hole and go stuck. Took me two days trying to get this bushing and the stuck tool out. Have to cut the bolt out and use heat and big hammers to get it out.

One of the few misses in my opinion from Z1. I expected this tool to make removing the stock diff bushing "easy", especially given the price. First off, the positive, the first stage of removing the inner rubber worked well and as expected. However, after this step I ran into nothing but problems removing the metal sleeve from the subframe. I was able to use the tool to extract the sleeve maybe 1/2" out of the subframe, and then I think the tool started to bind up. Using a 24" breaker bar and all 200lbs of my body weight, I couldn't get the tool to budge. I removed the tool several times to re-grease and re-position, actually having to use a socket to "punch" the tool out of the back side of the subframe it was so tight. I ended up going the sawzall route after multiple failed attempts with the tool.

Tool worked great. I was able to remove the old bushing fast and without damage to the rear crossmember. Instructions were not that informative though, I ended up going to youtube to get better instructions.

The kit worked great for a little bit, it ripped the center of the bushing out no problem but when it came to the actual bushing to be removed from the subframe it look it out probably 1 quarter of a inch and the rod snapped in half I had to go get the bushing removal kit from orilleys and finish pulling it out with that

Must have if you are planning on doing your rear diff bush on your back. The pulling plate was a little too big in the kit I received and was jamming in the bore. So required a light dress down on the grinding wheel. Once O.D slightly reduced it worked much better

Had a hard time spending the money, considering the replacement bushing set is cheaper than the removal tool!! Worth every penny!! This tool made the bushing removal the easiest part of the job on my 2006 350z. Worked flawlessly as advertised, working from jack stands I cant imagine trying to drill and cut the old one out. Reversed the removal tool to seat the new Z1 Urethane bushing.

yeah the product looks strong and durable. I had already used another tool to get the job done cause the delivery time was a bit long! I look forward to using it soon again so that will determine whether it stands by it's name! Will keep you posted Thanks

Loved this, with a little elbow grease it removed bushing in about 3 min, i really wouldn't try to do this job without the Z1 removal tool Thanks David

Used this on my 2005 350z manual. Watched plenty of youtube videos of people cutting there old bushing out and didn’t plan to go that route. This kit may be priced a little much for the task but saved me alot of hammering and possibility of scarring up the hole. Used a 1/2 x20in long wrench and it was difficult but eventually came out. Overall satisfied

Wasn't worth it in my case. Both threaded rods snapped. Almost impossible to do on the floor. Currently still have one of the plates stuck in the subframe. Will have to find a way to remove it. Hopefully the new bushing goes in alot easier.

This tool works as advertised in getting the old bushing and collar out. This job is a pain no matter what. Working on the garage floor makes this much harder as you can't get a large breaker bar on the tool to pry on. Definitely recommend you use a lift for this job. By the way the larger nut is massive and will require abnormal sized socket.

I was installing a new OS Giken rear differential and wanted to replace the damaged OEM rear differential bushing at the same time. This tool and associated hardware mad this job incredibly easy, worked exactly as the instructions said it would. Used the small plate to rip the guts of the old bushing out, I was actually surprised that the entire bushing came out on one shot leaving only the outer metal collar. Swapped to the larger plate and it aligned perfectly with the sleeve with just enough clearance to not damage the AL sub-frame. It required more effort on the breaker bar to get the sleeve out of the sub-frame however in was out in 10 minutes tops. I definitely recommend this tool if you intend on replacing the rear differential sub-frame bushing as it made this job incredibly simple. From reading the instructions to completing bushing removal it may have taken 30 minutes.

100% worth the money. Would recommend doing work on a lift to allow for more leverage on a breaker bar or long ratchet, but I easily managed the bushing removal on the floor in my garage on jackstands.

Bushing tool works for the guts and getting part of the OEM shell out, ended up just going with torch and cutting tool and impact with bushing tool to slide rest of it out on my car. Bushing been dead for some time. On another note did this again with friends Z bushing and shell came out no problem still good bushing compared to mine and yes really juicy those OEM bushing.

This tool worked great i actually used this tool for the 350z even though it was designed for the 370z. I had to use the sleeve on the opposite side of the subframe where the differential went because it was hitting the trunk. Definitely recommend trying to get 2 32mm deep sockets and a really long breaker bar for the outer sleeve of the bushing I needed one other person to help remove it with a breaker bar and it was still pretty tough to remove but overall the tool did what it said it would and definitely recommend.

This tool did not help me out. I still just ended up having to cut out the old bushing.
