Nissan Frontier 9-Speed Transmission Pan Armor is a steel cover developed to protect the Jatco JR913E's plastic transmission pan. Made from 2mm thick stainless steel plate, this cover was designed to resist impact damage from loose rocks, sticks, and other media that may come in contact with it either on or off road. All sides of the panel extend upwards from the base by 46mm, offering protection to the side walls and mounting flange of the pan. By incorporating a service panel, removal of the cover is not necessary to service the transmission. Like other Z1 products, installation is easy and requires no modifications to the pan or nearby transmission components.
Why do I need it?
When we first purchased our Frontier, we were surprised to find that Nissan used a plastic transmission oil pan without any protection from a skid plate. It was apparent that at some point this would become a problem. After a short drive on a relatively clear trail, we were proven right. A small stick no larger than a pencil punctured the side of the transmission pan at the mounting flange, resulting in a total loss of fluid. If this had happened on the road or wasn't caught quickly, we would have been replacing the transmission. We got lucky. We immediately set out to design a shield to prevent this failure so others don't run the risk of causing catastrophic damage.

Installation Note: To install this pan shield, it is necessary to remove 5 transmission pan bolts. Nissan's FSM recommends the replacement of these bolts when removed, however, we have found that these bolts are generally safe to reuse unless visibly damaged or corroded.
