The fuel filter is responsible for keeping debris from exiting the fuel tank and making its way to the fuel injectors. Over time the fuel filter may clog due to excessive debris buildup, which will cause the car to stall or not start. The fuel filter can be found near the engine bay on the fuel feed line.
