Located on the rear differential of your truck, a breather is installed that allows excess gasses to be vented from the rear differential as it heats and cools during use. This has two major disadvantages on off-road vehicles:
- When traversing through water or mud, it is possible for water to enter the differential, mixing with gear oils and causing damage to internal components and seals.
- It is very common for dirt and mud to clog the fitting, allowing excess pressure to build inside the differential case. As pressure increases, it damages axle seals resulting in fluid leaks and expensive repairs.
