This is the Universal Joint (Knuckle) that attaches the steering column to the steering rack. When these fail they cause the steering to feel "sloppy" or loose. Driving with a bad lower steering knuckle is a serious hazard. When it's time to replace this important component using a genuine OEM replacement is a must.
