The Thermostat is one of the most important parts of the cooling system. When the engine reaches a certain temperature, the thermostat opens and allows the flow of coolant into the engine.
Upon failure, the thermostat will become stuck open or closed. If the thermostat is stuck open the vehicle may not reach operating temperatures, and if it is stuck closed the engine can possibly over heat and damage other components.
