Z1 Motorsports Adjustable Front Upper Control Arms for '90+ Nissan 300ZX models.
With over a year in development and testing, Z1 Motorsports is now proud to offer a fully adjustable and customizable Front Upper Control Arm solution for the Z32 chassis. Thorough examination of the factory suspension as a system and on a component basis led to our approach. After testing the many options available on the market, finding common shortcomings, "issues" and failure points, we decided that a no compromise approach was the solution. We set forth an extensive list of design goals and product requirements; we believe it has led us to nothing short of the best part available for this application.
Available in two different configurations, you may choose either the Street or Ultra-light Race Version. As an added bonus, the arms may be converted from either form with relative ease and will not require the purchase of new Front Upper Control Arms.
Inspected, assembled, re-inspected, and packaged in house by Z1's trained staff, the front upper control arms arrive ready to install on your Z right out of the box. A professional alignment is strongly recommended after the installation of the arms.
Standard Control Arm Components:
- Body - Machined from solid, billet 6061 Aluminum and hard anodized black; the fluid design is not only aesthetically pleasing, its form is completely functional. Clearance will not be an issue through the full range of suspension travel. Should the car bound or bottom out, it will get to do so on the bump stops, not on the control arms (thus avoiding the theoretical infinite spring rate of instant zero compression), keeping the car safely controllable in the harshest conditions as Nissan intended. Why aluminum? Weight was at the top of our list for requirements; to add adjustment to the factory arm and even match the weight without being heavier was a steep challenge.
- Adjuster - Machined from Stainless Steel, the adjuster is a critical part of the arm for both safety as well as adjustability. Careful consideration was taken to ensure maximum adjustability without compromising safety or increasing the arms' overall weight unnecessarily. Stainless was used for long life while offering a great strength in a compact size. We even had your alignment tech in mind when designing these parts, featuring a double adjuster alignment changes are quick and easy with a turn of this jewel. Even selecting the size of the part features like the adjuster hex and the jam nut size was important; it can be tight working in this area of multilink suspension so keeping lock nuts a reasonable size and centralized was important to us. Even if you don't have a 27mm and 30mm wrench to tighten these up, you should be able to succeed with a reasonably sized crescent wrench.
- Jam Nuts - Not readily available before production in our desired size, custom LH and RH thread jam nuts were spec'd. Like the rest of these components not only were their outer dimensions spec'd even the thread class was specified. To continue with the corrosion resistance these fasteners are also produced in Stainless Steel.
Due to the fact that the majority of 300ZXs today are either driven exclusively on the street or are dual purpose vehicles, seeing occasional track usage, most customers prefer to have an aggressive and crisp handling suspension without the increased harshness and ride discomfort. With this in mind, Z1 has created the STREET Version of the Z1 Motorsports Front Upper Control Arms. Pairing up with Energy Suspension, an industry leader in aftermarket polyurethane bushings for the automotive industry, a custom bushing set was created to balance overall driving performance while ensuring ride quality. An added indirect feature of the STREET Version's use of bushings is that there is no need for solid tension rods to "protect" the bearings like in the majority of the current arms on the market. The Z1 Z32 FUCAs are serviceable and rebuildable. We offer the urethane bushings and new steel inserts separately HERE. Weighing in at 3.85 lbs each, the STREET Version matches with weight of the OEM Upper Control Arms and mimics a similar ride quality/comfort.
ULTRA-Light RACE VERSION:
Z1 Motorsports ULTRA-Light RACE Front Upper Control Arms are designed for the serious driving enthusiast or a "track use only" 300ZX. Using NSK double sealed ball bearings, the ULTRA-Light RACE Version provides the most direct and uncompromising driver feel. Weighing in at 3.25 lbs per arm, the ULTRA-Light RACE Version is over half a pound lighter than the stock arms and is MUCH lighter than its competitors.

Now available with an extended adjuster that gives you more than an inch of additional positive camber adjustment for those extremely lowered cars. Please note when using the extended adjuster you also lose more than an inch of negative camber adjustment. Be sure to choose the correct option for your vehicle.
The use of thread locker is recommended under the jam nuts once final alignment adjustments have been made.
Z1 Motorsports HIGHLY recommends the addition of either Solid Tension Rod Bushings or Solid Adjustable Tension Rods with solid, spherical heim joints when installing the ULTRA-Light Race Version Front Upper Control Arms. Failure to add these components will result in premature bearing failure. Z1 considers solid pivot points to be considered for Race Use, and require routine race standard maintenance and inspection.
Buyers of the ULTRA-Light Race Version should be aware that additional stiffness, vibration and noise will result by installing the solid style tension rod bushings. Customers not comfortable with or are concerned about the increase in harshness or noise should purchase the STREET Version.
