The Z1 Coolant Pump Upgrade Kit for the 2023+ Nissan Z is designed to provide more coolant flow through the factory water-to-air charge air coolers. By increasing coolant flow, charge air temperatures are reduced leading to more consistent power delivery.
Heat is a major byproduct of horsepower with forced induction, and managing heat is the key to producing consistent power. To combat high temperatures in the charge air system, Nissan elected to use two water-to-air intercoolers and a single heat exchanger. Two electric pumps feed coolant to the intercoolers and heat exchanger and worked to mitigate heat produced under high-performance situations. By upgrading one of the coolant pumps, we're able to increase the flow of coolant through the charge air system and improve the overall efficiency, especially when combined with an aftermarket heat exchanger and intercoolers.
UPGRADE FOR ALL
When used with a stock heat exchanger, this upgrade provides a 12% increase in coolant flow. When installing with an aftermarket heat exchanger, you can expect to see up to 35% increase. This is a HUGE advantage for Z owners and helps ensure your car is able to maintain peak performance longer! In order to achieve these numbers, we had to engineer a complete solution that added a massive Pierburg CWA100 coolant pump. Getting this pump to work with the factory ECU wasn't as easy as just wiring it into the factory harness.
ADAPTIVE LANGUAGE
In order to make the larger auxiliary pump operate like the factory pump, a controller had to be developed to convert the factory ECU's pulse width modulated pump signal to the higher frequency signal needed to control the Pierburg pump. Z1's Coolant Pump Controller also functions as a power supply for the larger pump and is wired directly to the battery, preventing voltage drop when the pump is running at its maximum potential. Access to the battery is achieved through a custom firewall grommet, designed to integrate into the firewall around the battery, providing a seamless installation. To further reduce engine bay clutter, we opted to fuse the power supply harness inside the controller's weather-resistant box. The controller integrates with the factory wiring through a fully plug-and-play harness with factory-style connectors, so there's no cutting or splicing required and the installation is fully reversible.

Don't forget the heat exchanger! Your Z's stock heat exchanger represents the greatest flow restriction in the charge air cooling system. While you can use this with a stock heat exchanger, you will need an aftermarket heat exchanger like Z1's Performance Heat Exchanger to take full advantage of the higher flow rate pump. Furthermore, installing our coolant pump upgrade with a stock heat exchanger will result in an increased load on the pumps, potentially reducing their lifespan. This is a direct result of the increased pressures in the coolant system caused by the restrictive factory heat exchanger. For this reason, we recommend only using this kit on cars that have an upgraded heat exchanger. Don't you want your cooling system working at its maximum potential anyway?
