Product Description

Z1's Auxiliary Coolant Tank for the Infiniti Q50 increases the water-to-air intercooler's coolant system capacity by 1.43 gallons. This improves the effectiveness of the intercoolers by aiding in the reduction of intercooler temperatures, resulting in increased horsepower and greater IAT consistency when running your Q hard for extended periods.

How does it work? Heat is the adversary to horsepower, and Nissan's twin-turbo VR30 engine is no stranger to heat. On the 3.0t engine, the twin Garrett turbochargers feed two water-to-air intercoolers. These intercoolers have their own independent coolant system that's sole purpose is to maintain consistent charge air temperatures. Cars that are driven hard or have higher levels of tune generate more heat than the stock system is designed to handle, resulting in higher than normal intercooler temperatures. As intercooler temperatures rise so do charge air temperatures, resulting in reduced engine performance.

The Z1 Auxiliary Coolant Tank increases the system's coolant capacity by 170%, from just 0.84 gallons of coolant to nearly 2.5! This additional coolant increases the thermal capacity of the system. The greater volume of coolant takes longer to heat up, keeping charge air temperatures lower for longer. This helps the system maintain lower and more stable temperatures for consistent power delivery.

The graph below illustrates the change in charge air temperature over repeated runs on a tuned Q50. Additional performance gains can be seen on cars with a larger heat exchanger, like the Z1 Performance Heat Exchanger.

Features:

  • Simple Installation - Z1's Auxiliary Intercooler Tank is installed in the cavity behind the passenger side fender and requires no permanent modification to your car.
  • Integrated Bleeder - A bleed port has been added to the top of the tank to ensure air has been properly bled from the system after installation.
  • High Flowing Lines - To ensure the best performance possible, full flow -10an ORB fittings are used. To improve fender liner clearance and further increase capacity, the inlet and outlet are located at the top of the tank.
  • Durable Design - Constructed from 3mm thick aluminum with a durable wrinkle black powdercoat.

Nice quality part! If you are going to tackle this yourself you MUST have an air lift bleeder and a way to operate the intercooler pumps. If these are not used properly you will have codes for incorrect duty cycle on the pumps. Also, kind of funny how you can hear the fluid flow when you are near the fender!
