Z1 Upgraded 350Z Hatch Struts

starstarstarstarstar 5/5 - (28 Reviews)
Fits models: 350Z

Product Description

Z1 Upgraded Hatch Struts are a great solution for your old worn out ones.  These high quality kits are now available in 3 different strengths Mild High Pressure (MHP), High Pressure (HP), or Ultra High Pressure (UHP) upgraded replacements.

Each kit includes a new pair of upgraded hatch struts with socket ends, ball studs with retainer locks, and new lower mounting plates with ball studs.

No Cutting required!  Install in minutes, just transfer over your bolts from your old lower mounting plates and install the new mounting plates, thread in the new upper ball stud with the strut and snap the lower strut socket into place.  Install the lower retainer lock and you are all set. You won't have to worry about your hatch falling on your head anymore.

Our new Mild High Pressure Units (MHP) are great for cars without spoilers or the stock standard spoiler, while still being stronger than stock they are the lowest pressure we offer and closest to stock strength.  The High Pressure (HP) units are great for almost every application, they are substantially stronger than the originals and will support most large aftermarket spoilers or just be strong for a standard application.  The upgrade to the Ultra High Pressure (UHP) units offer maximum added lift support for the Largest heavier aftermarket spoilers, or just a workout for those looking for it.

Available in MHPHP or UHP for your 350Z.

Each set comes with an 18 month warranty

View our detailed Installation Manual HERE.

*Please note;  These hatch struts are stronger and intended as an upgrade to the stock units, not just a standard replacement.  Upgraded MHP & HP hatch struts will require a little more effort to close the hatch if a heavier spoiler is not in place, while UHP units will require a notable amount of effort to close the hatch if a heavier spoiler is not in place.

Questions our customers have asked

Is it $68.00 for a pair or one thx Don
These are sold as a pair with hardware.
what's the $5.00 for ? Don
For the pressure option upgrade.
Is the price for one strut or for two. Why are the originals marked right on one and left on the other. Do you offer one for the right shock and another for the left shock? My Z is 2005 Anniversary model with the standard spoiler. Please advise Thanks Noel Grady
This price is for the pair with brackets. The struts can be used for either side. Regards, The Z1 Team

Definitely considerably stronger than the OEM struts. (HP version bought). Makes it so once I press the release I can lift it just an inch or so and it opens by itself, and then I get a nice workout closing it. I can only imagine how ridiculous the next step up is. Gone are the days where my hatch drops on my head just when I think it was going to stay up.

These struts are as advertised: UPGRADED. I've had the HP struts on for about a month and since owning my Z, I've never seen my hatch open itself until now! These are basically a NECESSITY to not having your hatch fall on your back! Install was super easy except when you have one strut off and the hatch just wants to drop it like it hot. Highly recommended!

Four months and going strong! Had my Z for about 2 years and never had a functioning trunk. These are a great replacement! So nice to be able to use the trunk!

My first experience with Z1 Motorsports. I originally purchased a set of $22 hatch struts from a vendor on Ebay. What a waste of time and money! After researching Z1 Motorsport and watching an online installation, I purchased the Z1 upgraded 350Z Hatch Struts. Installation took less time than it took to find my metric socket wrench. What a difference a quality parts make. The hatch goes up gently by itself and closes with ease. Thank you Z1 Motorsports.....

I got the regular high pressure (HP) and they are WAY stronger than the stock struts. I'm not exactly a big guy, but I have to darn near hop up to get it closed. I couldn't imagine what the UHP's are like. That being said, it feels like a really solid closure and I like the product. No real need to watch install video, even though it is a good video. Install is pretty striaght forward. If you can't figure it out when you are working on one, just look over to the other for an example.

In Australia, it is almost impossible to get good aftermarket Z products at anything close to a reasonable price. My hatch struts have been failing for 12+ months (at 140,000kms or 87000 miles) and I haven't replaced them because OEM are $350+ here. I came across these on Z1 and decided to bite the bullet and order from the USA instead, since I'm sick of the hatch falling on me (its winter here and the old struts get much worse in the cold). Ordered on Monday delivered 4 days later, half way across the world! Installation was a breeze - took me 10 minutes and a helper to hold the (very heavy) hatch open. Only needed 2 tools (12mm open spanner and 10mm socket + ratchet) and now the hatch opens much better and stays open. The HP struts take a little more effort to close, but this girl can still close it 1 handed (no aftermarket spoiler or hatch mods). Definitely glad I found you guys at Z1, and anyone with the same annoying Z hatch issues should definitely give these a go before throwing your money at Nissans well overpriced parts.

Shanna's video made the installation process really easy since I'm a visual learner. The HP pressure is solid for a 350z without a spoiler like my 07'. I can see the HP pressure level being harder for someone who is on the smaller side to push down and it's definitely stiffer than the stock. I'm 5'10 170 lbs and this stiffness was fine for me but I definitely feel it. Someone on the shorter side might have trouble getting leverage when closing the hatch and I'd recommend the lowest pressure struts for them. 5/5 for now and will update review later in 2017 on how they hold up.

Very satisfied with these. Apparently the stock struts are terrible since I see so many people buying these. These z1 struts are the answer you're looking for... when you install them, make sure you GENTLY set your hatch down to test them for proper placement first... if the hatch won't shut easily, it is because you have the brackets upside down. Just flip them and you're all set! I made that mistake and made a 5 minutes job a 30 minutes job. They are simple to install when done properly though! Get them!

Super easy to install and so far seems to be a great product. Once lifted manually about 4 inches, the new struts take over and lift the hatch for you. One problem I experienced was that my oem screws for the oem ball joint at the top were really IN THERE. I would recommend hitting them with some penetrating oil before trying to remove them. Great product z1!!!

I received the MHP struts for my wife's 2006 350Z since it had no spoiler and these are definitely stronger struts but by no means are they too strong. Very happy with the product and also with the response time it took for delivery. Installation was very simple only taking between 5/10 minutes. Took me longer to gather my tools than doing the job.

Awesome product! Easy to install and way better than oem. If your shocks/struts are shot and you have a factory installed spoiler, go with the HPs. Note: A little muscle power is needed when closing hatch. Thanks Z1!

First of all, great experience from Z1. Quality packaging, product and instructions. I purchased the HP struts for my Z without a spoiler. The Struts will lift the hatch automatically after manually lifting it a couple inches. I think I would have preferred the MHP struts since it's a bit difficult to close the hatch. I thought at first I had them installed improperly because the hatch wouldn't close, but I soon realized it just needed a lot of force to pull it shut. With that said, I would recommend the MHP struts for anyone without spoiler; however, I'm not sure the MHP are strong enough to automatically lift the hatch. So if that is what you're after, go with the HP.

Bought this product about a ell so, easy installation. And works perfect!! I bought the UHP and it works amazing!I recommend this to anyone who's shocks went out. All I do is ours the hatch button and with one finger, it lifts itself! No more using my head to holding it!

Received the struts in Hawai`i in three days using Postal Service Priority Mail. Excellent packaging. Quality product. Completed swap of old struts in 30 minutes. Excellent instructions. They work great, fit great and completely satisfied at this point. I may do another review in a year to let you know how they stand up over time.

Great struts! I dynamatted the top of my hatch, and the HP ones were perfect. Side note: Great install video. Before you install them, hit the top screw on your hatch with some PB Blaster a few times every hour to loosen it up. Both of mine were stuck. Stuck real good.

I recently installed the HP hatch struts on my 350z and was impressed by the kit, instructions and quality of the parts. Even the ball sockets were pre-greased and all fit just fine. I did consider some cheaper struts offered on ebay, but decided to go with Z1 due all of the positive comments relative to this vendor on My350Z.com.

I installed the UHP versions today and it took maybe 15 minutes. I figured I only needed the HP version because the aftermarket Nismo spoiler isn't THAT heavy, but it was enough weight that the stock Struts wouldn't hold the hatch up. I ordered the UHP though because both models had been back ordered for a while and the UHP was available first. Taking golf clubs in and out while trying to open and hold the hatch open was losing its fun. The hatch opened fairly normally after installing just the first Strut, with one of the original struts still in place. So I went "All In" and did the second UHP strut and it opens like a dream, but it does take more force to pull it down. Once you pull down about half way it softy shuts perfectly. Mentioning the force to close is not a knock on the product, the product is fantastic, easy to install, and had instructions with pictures. They mention the force to close as well and I'm the impatient guy who couldn't wait for the HPs. I guess I'm just trying to say, that if you're struggling to decide between HP and UHP, if you have the aftermarket Nismo spoiler (or something close in weight) ONE UHP and the stock strut will hold the hatch open with no worries, just to give you a frame of reference. EVERY TIME I have ordered something from Z1 the experience has been stellar-

Just what my 03 Z needed! Now i don't have to hold the hatch up with my head! One of these baby's is enough to hold the whole hatch up by itself! I ended up just replacing one because its even hard to close with just that and the worn stock strut. Saving the other one for later incase i need it (cant imagine why) Super easy installation, took about 5 minutes. 03 350Z (Touring)

I purchased the HP version of these struts to replace the worn out ones on my 04.5. Just installed them today. Installation could not have been easier. Fitment is perfect. Functionality seems great so far. Hatch takes noticeably more effort to close, but then that is the whole point. I suspect these would hold up even larger wings, and all but maybe a hatch with a sizeable wing and additional added weight from something like sound dampening. Fast shipping, good product, great price, detailed instructions... what more could you ask for?

My old struts were obviously wearing out so I bought these struts and they are a huge improvement. Installation wasn't hard at all, the kit includes everything you'll need, and the price is not bad for what you get.

I just bought these for my 350z and they worked great. see my how to video on vimeo on troubleshooting as well. I first put the brackets on upside down and then Spencer at Z1 helped me out. Also he recommended tightening my hatch latch which I explain in the video. http://vimeo.com/28128948
