Z1 G35 'Bring Your Own Wheel' Package

I used this kit to install a Sparco R383 steering wheel in my LS swapped 2006 G35 Sedan. I opted to delete the steering wheel controls for a cleaner look as the cruise controls had no function. I did have an interface between the steering wheel stereo controls and my Alpine ILX207 Infotainment system but gave them up for the cleaner look. The only issue was the horn wiring. The Steering Wheel Hub Installation Manual made no mention of what to do with the included black wire. Only the photo on the front page showing it gave a clue. Also the horn wire in the vehicle harness was too short to reach the horn button included with the steering wheel, as well as having too narrow a quick connect. I made an extension with a piece of AWG22 Green hookup wire and a matching hooded female quick connect and soldered it to the factory wire after cutting off the original connector and then insulated the joint with heat shrink tubing. After cutting the wires to the steering wheel controls I used a larger piece of heat shrink to insulate them. The final product looks great. The issues above are minor but could be mentioned in the manual to make installation easier. No issues with the airbag warning light.

The install was really easy, all the hardware was in the kit (including hardware to attach the wheel to the QD. That was super helpful) and everything fits really well and solid. Definitely a classy upgrade.
