Z1 350Z / G35 VQ35DE Clutch & Flywheel Kit

starstarstarstarstar_half 4.8/5 - (11 Reviews)
Fits models: 350Z / G35

Product Description

Z1 Motorsports 350Z G35 VQ35DE Performance Parts

This package fits '03 - '06 350Zs and G35s and is capable of holding the power of all naturally aspirated and, depending on the options you choose, most forced induction applications up to 500ft-lb tq.  At the same time reducing the total weight of the clutch and flywheel assembly to 29.75 lbs vs 46.6 lbs stock.

Package includes:

Clutch Type:

Z1 Motorsports Mild Performance Clutch - This kit utilizes a pressure plate built to OEM Spec clamping forces. This pressure plate along with any of the discs available in this kit allows the handling of more power without a change in pedal feel. We find this clutch option typically best suited for applications up to approximatley 350lb-ft.

Z1 Motorsports Performance Street Clutch - This kit utilizes a high clamping force pressure plate with a low spring load. High clamping force refers to the increased amount of pressure that is applied to the clutch disc. A low spring load eases lateral force on the main thrust bearings in your engine, which is especially important during "dry" start-up, lessening the likelihood of "crank walk". This pressure plate along with any of the discs available in this kit will handle substantially more power with a slightly "heavier" pedal feel. We find this clutch option typically best suited for applications up to approximatley 500lb-ft..

Flywheel Type:

Z1 Performance Light Weight - This Solid 4140 Forged Steel flywheel weighs 14.2 lbs. The light weight increases throttle response and helps reduce turbo lag for those boosted.

Z1 Performance Mid Weight - This Solid 4140 Forged Steel flywheel weighs 21 lbs. The mid weight helps maintain engine RPM between shifts.

Exedy Lightweight - This Solid 4140 Forged Steel flywheel weighs 19.05 lbs. This flywheel is lighter than stock but still heavy enough to help reduce excess transmission noise (chatter).

Optional Friction Disc

Standard Full Face - This is an OEM Type disc with a sprung hub and upgraded full friction surface to aid in driveability and engagement but also hold all of your NA Upgrades.

Sprung Hub 6 Puck - This is a sprung hub disc made up of ceramic "pucks" that provide a more aggressive engagement and hold a lot more power than the organic full face material.

Unsprung Full Face - This is a lightweight solid hub disc with an upgraded full friction surface to allow a more direct engagement without the aggressiveness of ceramic pucks.

Questions our customers have asked

I bought this kit a few weeks ago and plan on installing it this coming weekend. What are the torque specs for the flywheel to crank bolts and the clutch pressure plate to flywheel bolts? i'm not sure if i'm supposed to use the stock specs or not. I have the mild performance clutch and the Z1 lightweight flywheel. Thanks
The stock specs will be fine. We do recommend using red loctite on the flywheel and pressure plate bolts.

Motor swapped for a Japanese VQ35DE so purchased the Solid Mid Weight Flywheel, Full face friction disk and Mild performance clutch. If swapping motor double check your Bushing, mine was from a 5AT and had to grind it out, and save yourself future catastrophe. After a short break in period the pedal feel is slightly stiffer than OEM but that may also be from a used to new clutch. Also replaced master and Slave cylinders during engine swap. Z1 kit was easy to install and the included tool was nice. A full Canadian summer on the car and no problems. Clutch still feels amazing and smooth with minor chatter that i really only hear in the drive through.

This review is in addition to my previous review. Over the last several years, I've put around 60k on this clutch. This week, I pulled the engine in my G35, and had the opportunity to inspect and service my clutch/flywheel combo. Wow, I'm amazed at how much of the friction material is left. So much in fact, that I reinstalled it instead of replacing! I'm extremely please with this combination, and when the time comes, I'll be going this route again! I should mention, that my commute is mostly highway, but I live in a bit city. Also, the car sees occasional weekend track days and autocross circuits. Without hesitation, I'd recommend this kit to anyone. It's inexpensive, and has proven bulletproof for my driving style. Thanks Z1!

Purchased the Z1 lightweight flywheel, mild performance clutch and full face disc. Very impressed with the flywheel build quality and exceptional value for performance. Clutch feel is very similar to OEM and grabs hard. The installer was very impressed as well and claimed it was one of the best feeling 350Z clutches he had ever driven. The car revs so fast but offers nearly OEM drivability and feel. It is a little noisy at idle and low RPM under load but the feel and performance outweigh the noise. Just buy it and go have fun!

East to install. Fairly straight forward. I would recommend upgrading the brass bushing to the Nismo needle bearing just as a precaution. The pressure plate does not come in nice glass red. It comes in flat red and was by no means painted with care as there is quite a bit of overspray but at the end of the day, no one sees it. Just a bit off putting when you open the box and expect a nice shiny red. Other than that great product.

I had the stock clutch and flywheel before this kit and I love the difference. I got the mild performance with excedy lightweight flywheel and the only CON to this kit is the flywheel chatter with the excedy flywheel. If you don't want to hear the flywheel chatter at idle consider getting the mid weight or Z1 lightweight which was sold out when I bought it. Smooth as butter now. 5/5

Just installed my new clutch assembly & solid mass flywheel. I ordered it on Sunday and received confirmation on Monday and it was delivered Thursday . Excellent price a real bang for your buck. Nissan wanted $1,800 just for the parts. I still want to replace my clutch master & slave. I already had the steel braided line but, I will install it when I replace the hydraulic system. It did NOT come with new bolts unfortunately but no biggy. Another issue with replacing the clutch in the G35 is that the drive shafts does not have any motion to it to lube the needle bearings in the U-joints. I may have to turn it 180 to get it back to where it was. I got a little vibration it is NOT from the kit. It happens at high speed like 70-80mph. I'm thinking the u-joints cause they were sticky. Anyway great product I always go to Z1 Motor Sports for the best deals around. I bought a clutch 7 years ago for $300ish. Unfortunately everything has gone up in price since then. Great product reputable products, greats prices. I would highly recommend that anyone use Z1 Motor Sports for their parts needs all. And if you are reading this and need a clutch assembly i.e. clutch, press.plate, bearing, bushing, braided line &solid mass flywheel for a 2005ish Infiniti G35 ...buy this kit it is the best one you will find for the price. Exedy parts and Z1 flywheel. Or you can upgrade any of the parts to an even higher performance model. But, for a better that stock option go with the base.

I just recently got this combo (Mild Clutch/Standard Full Face disc /and Z1 Midweight flywheel). My mechanic installed this alongside with replacing the master and slave cylinder. I was shocked how well this product feels. My mechanic said everything fit in just perfectly. Everything came with the kit and I did not need to buy any other parts. In terms of performance, I'm really happy with how well the clutch engages. My engine revs so much better and accelerating off the line just feels so much more direct. I've not been too big a fan of driving other cars before with really light flywheels due to the chatter soI definitely decided to stick with the midweight flywheel. I could not be happier with this product. This setup definitely feels good for daily driving.

Went with the mild performance and standard full face disc option and it's working great. Honestly, I think this kit is much better over the oem clutch and flywheel set up. My Z doesn't see any track days, but only a hard pull or launch once in a while, as my Z is my daily for the most part. So I didn't see the need to go extra heavy duty. Clutch feels super soft, almost like a civic clutch, which I do have grown to like and have gotten quickly used too already. Lightened Flywheel translates to a noticeably faster revving motor. Put the flywheel on a scale and weighed in at around 15 lbs, while the stock flywheel felt like it weighed a ton. Clutch line eliminates any possibility for a mushy pedal feel. While at the same time, reducing overall weight from the drive train. Great quality products at a great price. +1 for Z1 !!! :)

I've driven roughly 1500 miles on the mild performance and standard full face clutch now, and all of the problems I was having have been eliminated. No chatter, smooth and progressive feel, and seems pretty solid. Install was much easier than any clutch I've ever done before, but then again, PB blaster makes things come apart much easier ;) I initially lined up the flywheel wrong, and it was off by one hole, so I had to tear it apart and put it back together again. I have no complaints, and am looking forward to hitting the autoX courses this summer. I've already recommended this setup to the guys over at 6MT forums for guys looking for a relatively OE (albeit a little stiffer) feel fit for daily drivers.

I've had mine installed for about 4 months now and I kinda wish I went with the normal instead of the 6 puck. If you don't whomp on your gas pedal all the time just go with the normal clutch. Makes a lot of noise shifting under 2000 rpm and has minimal chatter while sitting at idle. All in all when I do want to open it up the clutch has no problem catching and I can cherp the tires up to 4th.
